Patchwork is currently seeing a revival with patchwork designs everywhere from bed linen to furniture, cushions, bags and other home accessories. Our quick and easy quilt workshop will give you all the instructions you need to make your very own patchwork quilt. You’ll learn how to piece the fabric together to make the quilt top, plus lots of other hints and tips on colour, fabric and basic sewing techniques. A demonstration of layering and simple quilting techniques to finish the quilt, plus binding methods will allow you to complete the project.

Use that charm pack or layer cake that you’ve had for ages and don’t know what to do with, or alternatively use up fabric from your stash. You will need 25 x 10-inch squares, or 100 x 5-inch squares of fabric in toning or contrasting colours, or whatever you fancy! This will make a small quilt approx 44” x 44” (112cm x 112cm).This is a beginner’s patchwork and quilting workshop designed to give you all the basic skills you need to get started in this craft.

Make a bag that’s beautiful, practical and unique. We will explore a number of methods of creating a base fabric for the bag either using fabric off the bolt, fat quarters, or use up your favourite scraps and piece the bag top. Use fabric scraps for appliqué and add other embellishments and stitch to create a truly original bag.

You will need 5 x fat quarters, or half a metre of fabric for the outside and another half metre for the lining. This will make a bag approx 12” wide x 14” high x 4” deep. If you prefer a smaller bag you can re-size the pattern dimensions to your requirements.

Finish the bag with handles and fastenings of your choice, and you’re ready to go.
